Take Profit Trader Rules (Test and PRO Drawdown, 50% Consistency Rule, News Rules)
- To pass the Take Profit Trader Test, you meet 5 conditions: hit the profit target, stay above the EOD trailing drawdown, stay within max size, trade at least 3 days, and meet the 50% consistency rule (checked 2026-11-04). There is no daily loss limit (DLL) and no news restriction during the Test.
- The drawdown type changes by stage. The Test and PRO+ use EOD (end-of-day balance), while PRO uses an intraday trailing drawdown that also follows open profit. If you trade PRO the same way as the Test, the floor rises faster.
- Trading runs from 6 PM ET to 5 PM ET, and positions are closed automatically at 4:55 PM ET. On PRO and PRO+, you cannot hold positions or orders from 1 minute before to 1 minute after FOMC, NFP and CPI releases.
What rules apply in the Take Profit Trader Test?
The Take Profit Trader Test (evaluation) is 1 step, and you pass when you meet the 5 conditions below. All are stated in the official help center, checked on 2026-11-04.
- Reach the profit target ($3,000 on 50K)
- Stay above the EOD trailing drawdown floor ($2,000 on 50K)
- Stay within max size (on 50K: 6 mini or 60 micro contracts)
- Trade on at least 3 days
- Consistency rule: your best day is less than 50% of total net profit
The Take Profit Trader Test has no daily loss limit (DLL) and no trading restriction around news releases. After you pass, PRO adds a different drawdown type, news rules and a weekly trading requirement. How drawdowns and consistency rules work in general is shared across the 6 firms and is covered in separate shared articles. This article focuses on the Take Profit Trader numbers and exceptions.

What are the Take Profit Trader Test rules by account size?
The Take Profit Trader Test comes in 5 sizes. The profit target, max size and drawdown amount are set by size and do not increase along the way (no scaling).
| Size | Profit target | Max size (mini / micro) | EOD trailing drawdown | Starting floor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25K | $1,500 | 3 / 30 | $1,500 | $23,500 |
| 50K | $3,000 | 6 / 60 | $2,000 | $48,000 |
| 75K | $4,500 | 9 / 90 | $2,500 | $72,500 |
| 100K | $6,000 | 12 / 120 | $3,000 | $97,000 |
| 150K | $9,000 | 15 / 150 | $4,500 | $145,500 |
Max size is fixed, and you can hold up to 10 times as many micro contracts as mini contracts. For how mini and micro are counted together, check the official help article on max position size. Staying within max size is also part of the Universal Trading Policies (UTP) that apply to all accounts.
The minimum is 3 trading days
The Take Profit Trader Test requires at least 3 trading days, counting any day with 1 or more trades (Rule 5 in the official help center).
There is no daily loss limit (DLL)
The official Take Profit Trader homepage shows "Daily Loss Limit $1100 Removed" for 50K, and the comparison table lists no DLL for the Test. This shows there used to be a DLL, but the date it was removed is under review. PRO and PRO+ have no DLL either. PRO+ Development accounts do have a soft DLL.

How does the Take Profit Trader drawdown change by stage? (EOD vs. intraday trailing)
The Take Profit Trader drawdown works differently in the Test, PRO and PRO+. The amount is the same, but what it follows changes, so the same trades can lead to different results.
| Stage | Type | What it follows | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test | EOD trailing | Highest end-of-day balance | Starting balance |
| PRO | Intraday trailing | Peak balance including realized and open profit | Starting balance |
| PRO+ | EOD | Realized profit at end of day | $0 (PRO+ starts from a $0 balance) |
Test: EOD trailing
The Test drawdown follows your highest end-of-day balance and locks once it reaches the starting balance. On 50K, an end-of-day balance of $51,000 moves the floor to $49,000, and a balance of $52,000 stops the floor at $50,000. If you touch the floor, from either a realized or an open loss, the account is liquidated at that moment. Open profit during the day does not raise the floor, but an open loss during the day that touches it fails the account.
PRO: intraday trailing
The PRO drawdown is an intraday trailing drawdown that follows the peak balance including open profit. The amount is the same as the Test, and it stops once it reaches the starting balance. For example, on a 50K PRO account, if open profit briefly lifts the balance to $51,200, the floor rises to $49,200. Even if the trade pulls back and you close at $50,500, the floor stays at $49,200.
In the Test, open profit during the day does not raise the floor, so if you try to let profits run the same way on PRO, the distance to the floor gets shorter than you expect. On PRO, trades where open profit gives back a lot work against you.
PRO+: EOD from a $0 balance
PRO+ starts from a $0 balance with an EOD drawdown equal to the amount you had when you started PRO (-$2,000 on 50K). It follows realized profit at the end of the day and stops at $0. The upgrade and the $5,000 freeze are covered in the article on PRO vs. PRO+.

What is the Take Profit Trader consistency rule? (50%, Test only)
The Take Profit Trader consistency rule applies only to the Test: your best day's net P&L divided by your total net profit must be less than 50%. Going over does not fail you; instead, the profit you need to pass rises automatically.
Formula and an example of the raised target (50K)
The formula is "best day net P&L / total net profit < 50%." The 50K profit target is $3,000, but if you make $2,000 in 1 day, total net profit must exceed $4,000 for that day to be under 50%. The official help center says the required profit rises to "more than 2 times your best day."
| Best day profit (50K) | Total net profit that meets the rule | Profit needed to pass |
|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | Over $2,000 | $3,000 (the profit target stays) |
| $1,500 | Over $3,000 | More than $3,000 |
| $2,000 | Over $4,000 | More than $4,000 |
| $2,500 | Over $5,000 | More than $5,000 |
Losing days reduce total net profit, so a losing day after a big winning day pushes the required profit even further away. Keeping each day's profit below half the target avoids the increase.
PRO and PRO+ have no consistency rule
Take Profit Trader PRO and PRO+ have no consistency rule. Payout conditions are set by the buffer, which is covered in the payout rules article.

What are the Take Profit Trader PRO account rules? (Weekly trading, price limits, account count)
Take Profit Trader PRO adds 3 rules the Test does not have: a weekly trading requirement, a ban on holding positions when a price limit is hit, and restrictions around news releases. The news rules are covered in a later section.
- Weekly trading requirement: at least 1 round-trip trade on at least 1 day in each calendar week (Sunday to Friday)
- If you hold a position when a price limit (Limit Up / Limit Down) is hit, you lose the account
- All trades must be placed manually (automated trading is banned on all accounts)
- The max drawdown amount is the same as the Test (the type is intraday trailing)
How many accounts you can hold
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Test | Unlimited, and you can trade them at the same time |
| PRO and PRO+ | 5 accounts at a time per person in total (the slots carry over when you move to PRO+) |
| Activating passed Tests | Up to 10 in 30 calendar days |
| Email addresses you can register | 1 per person |
You can hold any number of Tests, but PRO and PRO+ together are capped at 5 accounts. Holding opposite positions in the same instrument across accounts is a counter-position violation, so when you use several accounts, keep them in the same direction.

What are the Take Profit Trader trading hours? (No overnight holding)
Take Profit Trader trading runs from 6 PM ET to 5 PM ET the next day, and positions are closed automatically at 4:55 PM ET. You cannot hold positions overnight or over the weekend. The official site writes times in ET (US Eastern Time).
| Event | Official time (ET) |
|---|---|
| Trading opens | 6:00 PM |
| Auto-liquidation | 4:55 PM |
| Trading closes | 5:00 PM |
Convert the auto-liquidation time to your local time and plan around it. US daylight saving time runs from March to November, so the converted local time can differ by 1 hour depending on the time of year.
Even before the auto-liquidation, the account may be liquidated if you fail to close by an instrument's own trading close or miss a shortened holiday session. Before holidays, check the trading hours in the official announcements.
A general explanation of CME trading hours and daylight saving time changes is shared across the 6 firms and is planned for a shared article.

What are the Take Profit Trader news trading rules? (1 minute around FOMC, NFP and CPI)
The Take Profit Trader Test has no news release rules. On PRO and PRO+, you must hold no positions and no orders from 1 minute before to 1 minute after the FOMC statement, the US jobs report (NFP) and CPI. You can trade during Fed speeches and minutes releases.
| Release | Official time (ET) |
|---|---|
| FOMC statement | Wednesday 2:00 PM |
| US jobs report (NFP) | Friday 8:30 AM |
| CPI | Time not stated in the primary sources (under review) |
For NFP, for example, leave no positions and no limit or stop orders from 1 minute before to 1 minute after the release. The official rule covers both positions and orders, so cancel stop orders before the release too.
The CPI release time is not written in the sources for this article, so it is under review. Check release dates and times on the official US government release calendar.

Whether there is a separate rule using the term HFT is under review.
Violations can lead to forfeited profit, a reset, account liquidation or closure, and a permanent ban. The Sustainable Trading Policy also flags patterns such as trading most of the time at max size, relying on sim fill inefficiencies, and taking large positions at the open or at the exact moment of a news release, and the agreement may be ended without notice.
