Apex Trader Funding vs Take Profit Trader: Fees, Drawdown and Payout Rules Compared
Apex Trader Funding charges a one-time $590 for EOD Trail 50K with a 30-calendar-day deadline, while Take Profit Trader charges $170 a month for its Test of the same size with no deadline; the two also apply the consistency rule at opposite stages and start payouts at different times (official sites, checked 2026-11-04). We lined up both firms' accounts under the same conditions, using only the figures on their official sites and help centers.
- The pricing models differ. Apex Trader Funding EOD Trail 50K is a one-time $590, valid for 30 calendar days from purchase, with a $129 activation fee after passing. Take Profit Trader Test 50K is $170 a month with no deadline, plus a one-time $130 when you move to PRO.
- The consistency rule applies at opposite stages. Take Profit Trader requires "highest profit day under 50%" in the Test evaluation, but not in PRO after passing. Apex Trader Funding has none in the evaluation, but requires under 50% for every payout from the PA after passing.
- After passing, Take Profit Trader PRO payouts are available "from day one" per the comparison table on its homepage, with no cap and an 80% split. Apex Trader Funding PAs require 5 qualifying days before a request, pay 100%, and allow up to 6 payouts. Both firms publish restricted country lists, so check that your country of residence is not on them before signing up.
Short answer: which firm fits which conditions
Traders who cannot predict how many months passing will take and want an evaluation with no deadline
Take Profit Trader Test is a monthly subscription with no deadline, and billing stops automatically when you pass. Apex Trader Funding expires at 6:00 PM ET on Day 30, with no extensions or resets. With Take Profit Trader, however, each month adds directly to the cost.
Traders aiming to pass within 30 days who do not want recurring billing
The Apex Trader Funding evaluation is a one-time payment with no minimum trading days, so you can pass in a single day. Since it is not a subscription, you cannot be billed again because you forgot to cancel. Take Profit Trader Test is not canceled automatically even if you lose the account for a rule violation.
Traders who want to withdraw profit bit by bit right after moving to PRO
In the Test, PRO and PRO+ comparison table on the homepage, the PRO payout column says "from day one", with no per-payout cap and no consistency condition at payout. For 50K, payouts cover 80% of profit above a $52,000 balance, and sending $250 or less from the wallet costs a $50 fee.
Traders who want 100% of sim funded profit instead of 80%
Apex Trader Funding PAs pay a 100% split. In exchange, each payout has a cap: the EOD 50K allows $13,000 in total over 6 payouts, and the PA is closed after the 6th.
This is not a ranking of which firm is better. Choose based on your own conditions, such as how long you can spend passing, how you want to take payouts, and how you would recover from a failure.
Apex vs Take Profit Trader 50K comparison table: Apex EOD Trail and TPT Test (PRO)
Since 2026-03-01, Apex Trader Funding's current products have been Intraday Trail and EOD Trail (the older Legacy products are back on sale for a limited time but follow different rules, so they are not covered here). The main comparison uses EOD Trail, because Take Profit Trader Test uses a drawdown that follows the highest balance at the close (EOD), so the line moves the same way during the evaluation.
After passing, however, the relationship flips. Take Profit Trader PRO switches to a type that follows the peak including unrealized profit during the day (Intraday), while the Apex Trader Funding EOD PA stays based on the close. Prices are shown for Standard, which has an activation fee after passing; Intraday Trail and No Activation Fee are covered in the separate table below and in the cost section.
| Item (50K) | Apex Trader Funding EOD Trail (Standard) | Take Profit Trader Test (PRO after passing) |
|---|---|---|
| Evaluation fee and billing | One-time $590 (list price). 30 calendar days from purchase, no extensions or resets | $170 a month. No deadline, billed on the same day each month, stops automatically when you pass |

| Profit target | $3,000 | $3,000 |
| Max drawdown and type | $2,000. Recalculated at the close (EOD). The PA after passing is also EOD | Test: $2,000, EOD, locks once it reaches $50,000. PRO: same amount, follows intraday (Intraday) |
| Daily loss limit | Evaluation $1,000 (fixed, hitting it stops trading for the day). PA $1,000 to $3,000 depending on profit | None (Test, PRO and PRO+) |
| Consistency rule | None in the evaluation. Under 50% for each PA payout | Test under 50% (going over raises the required profit). None in PRO |
| Deadline and minimum days | Expires after 30 calendar days. No minimum days | No deadline. Minimum 3 trading days (days with at least one trade count) |
| Profit split | PA 100% (sim) | PRO 80% (sim), PRO+ 90% (live, by invitation) |
| Payout requirements (main) | 5 qualifying days ($250 or more per day), balance of $52,600 or more, minimum $500. Another article says "trade 8 days with 5 days of $50 or more" (under review) | "From day one" per the homepage comparison table. Profit above a $52,000 balance (buffer) is eligible. No cap |
| Payout method outside the US | Plane (fees under review) | Wallet article: Wise or PayPal. Payout System article: Routable, PayPal, Wise |
| Restricted countries | 87 countries and regions listed | 119 countries and regions listed |
Apex Trader Funding fees by account type
If you want to compare intraday-type drawdowns with each other, Apex Trader Funding Intraday Trail is the type closest to Take Profit Trader PRO. The profit target and max drawdown are the same as EOD Trail, and there is no daily loss limit during the evaluation.
| Apex Trader Funding 50K | Evaluation list price (one-time) | Activation fee after passing | Drawdown type | Daily loss limit during evaluation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EOD Trail Standard | $590 | $129 | Recalculated at the close | $1,000 |
| EOD Trail No Activation Fee | $1,190 | Free | Recalculated at the close | $1,000 |
| Intraday Trail Standard | $249 | $99 | Follows the highest balance including unrealized profit | None |
| Intraday Trail No Activation Fee | $799 | Free | Follows the highest balance including unrealized profit | None |

How much does it cost? A one-time fee with a 30-day limit vs a monthly fee with no deadline
The Apex Trader Funding evaluation expires 30 calendar days after purchase. The deadline is 6:00 PM ET on Day 30. There are no extensions or resets, so if you do not pass within 30 days, you buy the same evaluation again. After passing, you activate the PA within 7 calendar days and pay the activation fee at that point.
Take Profit Trader Test is a monthly subscription with no deadline. Billing stops automatically when you pass, but it is not canceled automatically if you lose the account for a rule violation, so cancel it yourself if you do not want to continue. When you move to PRO, you pay a one-time activation fee of $130, and PRO has no monthly fee.
At both firms, the longer it takes to pass, the more you pay. The table below shows totals if you pass in month 1, 2 or 3. For Apex Trader Funding it assumes you buy the evaluation once more every 30 days; for Take Profit Trader it assumes you keep paying the monthly fee without buying resets.
Prices are both firms' official list prices as of 2026-11-04. Sale and discount prices are not included. Taxes and payment processing fees are not included either.
| 50K (evaluation + activation fee) | Pass in 1 month | Pass in 2 months | Pass in 3 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Trader Funding EOD Trail Standard | $719 | $1,309 | $1,899 |
| Apex Trader Funding EOD Trail No Activation Fee | $1,190 | $2,380 | $3,570 |
| Apex Trader Funding Intraday Trail Standard | $348 | $597 | $846 |
| Apex Trader Funding Intraday Trail No Activation Fee | $799 | $1,598 | $2,397 |
| Take Profit Trader Test (monthly fee + PRO activation fee) | $300 | $470 | $640 |
If you pass in 1 month, Apex Trader Funding EOD Trail Standard costs $719 (the $590 evaluation plus the $129 activation fee), and Take Profit Trader costs $300 (the $170 monthly fee plus the $130 activation fee). With Apex Trader Funding Intraday Trail Standard, the total is $348, and the gap with Take Profit Trader narrows.
Cost of failing and refunds
- Apex Trader Funding: current products have no reset; if you fail, you buy again. There are no refunds at all, including the initial purchase, activation fees, data fees, and choosing the wrong plan. Payment is by Visa, Mastercard or Discover in your own name; American Express and crypto are not accepted.
- Take Profit Trader: Test can be reset at any time, $99 for 50K. Resetting does not change the monthly renewal date. A PRO reset costs $649 for 50K, up to 3 times per account. Under the terms, you can get a refund within 72 hours of purchase, but accounts that have been used or traded are excluded, and $75 is deducted from the amount paid.

How do the rules differ? Drawdown type, daily loss limit, consistency and trading hours
How the drawdown type changes between the evaluation and after passing
Apex Trader Funding EOD Trail redraws the line at the 4:59:59 PM ET close to "$2,000 below the highest closing balance" and enforces it in real time during the next session. During the evaluation, the line locks once it reaches the profit target balance on Rithmic and WealthCharts accounts, but not on Tradovate accounts. The EOD PA after passing uses the same close-based method, and the line stops at $50,100, the starting balance plus $100.
Take Profit Trader Test also follows the highest balance at the close, and the line locks once it reaches the $50,000 starting balance. Touching the minimum balance liquidates the account on the spot, whether the loss is realized or unrealized. In PRO, the max drawdown amount stays the same, but the line switches to following the peak of realized plus unrealized profit during the day, and it stops once it reaches the starting balance.
| Stage (50K) | Apex Trader Funding (EOD Trail) | Take Profit Trader |
|---|---|---|
| Evaluation | Close-based. Lock depends on the connection | Close-based. Locks at $50,000 |
| Sim funded account after passing | Stays close-based. Locks at $50,100 | PRO switches to intraday. Stops at the starting balance |
| Live account by invitation | Live is close-based, starting balance $0, drawdown $3,000 | PRO+ returns to close-based. Starting balance $0, drawdown $2,000 |
Daily loss limit and consistency
The Apex Trader Funding EOD Trail evaluation has a fixed $1,000 daily loss limit, and hitting it stops trading for the day (it does not fail the account). In the PA, the limit and position size are set by the previous day's profit, starting at $1,000 for 50K. Take Profit Trader has no daily loss limit on Test, PRO or PRO+, and the homepage's 50K listing says "Daily Loss Limit $1100 Removed" (the $1,100 daily loss limit was removed).
Consistency applies at opposite stages. In Take Profit Trader Test, the net P&L of your highest profit day must be under 50% of total net profit; if it goes over, the required profit rises to an amount above "highest profit day x 2". Apex Trader Funding has no condition in the evaluation, but each time you request a payout from the PA, your largest profit day must be under 50% of net profit since the last payout. If you do not meet it, the request button simply does not appear; the account does not fail.
| Item (50K) | Apex Trader Funding | Take Profit Trader |
|---|---|---|
| Max position size (evaluation) | 6 mini, 60 micro | 6 mini, 60 micro |
| Max position size (after passing) | PA: 2 to 4 contracts based on the previous day's profit | No scaling |
| Number of accounts after passing | Up to 20 PAs per household | 5 PRO and PRO+ accounts at the same time |
| Trading frequency after passing | 2 days with net profit of $50 or more within 30 calendar days | At least 1 day and 1 round turn per calendar week (Sunday to Friday) |

Trading hours, economic releases and prohibited practices
Neither firm allows holding positions overnight or over the weekend. Apex Trader Funding requires all positions closed by 4:59 PM ET, and the trader is responsible for this. Take Profit Trader closes positions automatically at 4:55 PM ET, 4 minutes earlier than Apex Trader Funding.
- Economic releases: Take Profit Trader has no restriction in the Test, but in PRO and PRO+ you cannot hold positions or orders from 1 minute before to 1 minute after FOMC, NFP and CPI. Apex Trader Funding allows trading with normal strategies but prohibits trades such as placing orders on both sides to bet on the outcome.
- Automation: prohibited at both. Apex Trader Funding states "No Automation or Algorithm Usage allowed", and Take Profit Trader prohibits bots and algorithms on all accounts and says all PRO trades must be executed manually.
- Hedging: both firms prohibit opposite positions in the same or related instruments (such as ES and MES) across your own accounts.

How do payouts compare? When they start, caps, and non-US payout methods
At both firms, you can request payouts only from the sim funded account after passing: the Performance Account (PA) at Apex Trader Funding and PRO at Take Profit Trader. Trading is simulated, but payouts are real money.
| Item (50K) | Apex Trader Funding PA (EOD) | Take Profit Trader PRO |
|---|---|---|
| When you can request | After 5 qualifying days ($250 or more per day, need not be consecutive) | "From day one" per the homepage comparison table |
| Balance requirement | Balance of $52,600 or more. Safety Net of $52,100 maintained for the life of the PA | Amount above the buffer ($52,000 balance) is eligible |
| Consistency | Under 50% since the last payout | None |
| Per-payout cap | From $1,500 for the 1st to $3,000 for the 6th | No cap on the maximum payout |
| Minimum and fees | Minimum $500. Receiving fees under review | Minimum under review. $50 for $250 or less from the wallet, free above $250 |
| Profit split | 100% | 80% |
| Number of payouts | PA closed after 6 | Under review |
In Take Profit Trader PRO, if a 50K account has a balance of $53,000, the $1,000 above the buffer is eligible, and you receive 80% of it, $800. The firm says that when you close a PRO account, you can withdraw 50% of the buffer. The Apex Trader Funding EOD PA caps payouts at $1,500, $1,500, $2,000, $2,500, $2,500 and $3,000, for a total of $13,000 over 6 payouts.
Apex Trader Funding's official articles describe one point differently. The payout rules article says 5 qualifying days, while the payout method article still says "trade at least 8 days, with 5 of them at $50 or more". Neither states which applies, so we show both and mark this as under review.
Review and how the money moves
- Apex Trader Funding: review within 2 business days, transfer 3 to 4 business days after approval, and 3 to 7 business days of bank processing, for roughly 5 to 11 business days in total. You can keep trading after requesting, and the request is rejected automatically if the balance falls below the minimum.
- Take Profit Trader: a two-step process, first moving funds from the PRO account to the TPT wallet and then sending them out. Tradovate PRO accounts are processed automatically in 5 to 10 seconds; Rithmic PRO and PRO+ accounts are processed manually. Sending from the wallet requires admin approval, which takes up to 12 business hours.
Payout methods outside the US (Take Profit Trader articles differ)
| Firm and article | Stated non-US payout method | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Apex Trader Funding (non-US payout method article) | Plane (invitation email after the first approval) | Requires a bank account in your own name in your country of residence and a government-issued ID number or passport number. No tax documents issued to non-US traders |
| Take Profit Trader (How to Withdraw from the Wallet) | Wise or PayPal (within 12 business hours) | US banks via Plaid. PayPal may charge its own fees separately (withdrawal fees article) |
| Take Profit Trader (Payout System) | Routable (140+ currencies, 220+ countries and regions), PayPal, Wise | Names must match. LLCs use Wise (or PayPal in the LLC's name) |
We do not decide which article is correct and list both. PRO users must sign a tax form before requesting a payout.
The path to a real-money account
Both are by invitation. For Take Profit Trader PRO+, the firm decides based on an overall review of consistency, risk management and other factors, with no single criterion. The split is 90%, and $5,000 of PRO profit is frozen. Apex Trader Funding Live is also by invitation, with a 90% split. Taking 3 payouts in a row from one PA is given as an example guideline, but it is not an automatic criterion.

Restricted country lists and how eligibility is decided
- Apex Trader Funding: lists 87 countries and regions where new and additional accounts cannot be opened (as of 2026-11-04). - Take Profit Trader: prohibits access from restricted countries, including trading and viewing market data. The list covers 119 countries and regions (as of 2026-11-04). Whether eligibility is judged by nationality or residence is not stated officially. Check the official site before signing up.
- Take Profit Trader's terms say the site can be accessed from "most countries around the world", but that does not name any specific country. Both firms publish restricted country lists; check on the official site that the country where you live is not listed before signing up.

Neither firm's primary sources explain how to report profits for tax purposes outside the US. Take Profit Trader only mentions a US tax form and a year-end tax document. For how your profits are treated, consult a tax professional in your country.

FAQ
At which stage does the consistency rule apply at Apex Trader Funding and Take Profit Trader?
At opposite stages. Take Profit Trader applies it only in the Test evaluation, where your highest profit day must be under 50% of total net profit (going over raises the required profit; it does not fail the account). Once you pass and move to PRO, the condition no longer applies. Apex Trader Funding has none in the evaluation, but each time you request a payout from the PA after passing, your largest profit day must be under 50% of net profit since the last payout (checked 2026-11-04).
